    Andre Van Der Schelde

I was born and raised in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  With my father a professional musician and my mother a talent for art,  I grew up in a household where creativity was well nurtured.  While I had talents in dance and music, it was always animals and art that were my deepest passions.  With a menagerie of pets at home, it was only natural for me to combine these obsessions and I spent countless hours committed to both.

Despite my upbringing, I found myself in the corporate world for many years while my brushes waited patiently in a coffee can.  However, nothing learned is ever wasted.  The corporate ladder gave me wonderful friends, business skills, great memories and ultimately a view from atop the painter's ladder.  Since that transition from corporate to painter's ladder, I've been blessed with additional friends from all walks of life, freedom of expression and precious time to raise our two daughters.  I have now been painting full time for the past 18 years.  As they say, "time flies when you're having fun!" and I have indeed found this to be true.

I started my art business painting murals.  From dinosaurs to fighter jets, Tuscany scenes to Antarctica's icy tundra and beyond, my client's requests never disappointed!   However, left to my own devices, I would, and still will, paint most anything with a pulse. Regardless of what I'm painting, much time is spent researching my subjects before I ever dip my brush in the paint.  It's a fascinating part of my job.

Although I still paint murals, a large part of what I do now is commissions on canvas for individuals, businesses and galleries.  While I love all forms, portraits in particular hold a special place in my heart.  I'm always honored to be entrusted with such personal assignments.  Often my subjects have crossed the rainbow bridge.  I understand and can fully relate to the levity of these assignments and I go to great lengths to ensure I capture the essence of my subjects.  It is very gratifying as I get a glimpse of who they were (and are) and I am a changed person because of it.

I also love painting wildlife and it's my goal to bring awareness and appreciation to the bountiful, yet fragile animal kingdom through my art.  In addition, it is my hope that I can be an inspiration to others by encouraging them to explore and experience the talent that was tailor made for them alone.  Regardless if  it becomes a full time job, part time job or simply a hobby, you owe it to yourself, the world and most importantly, our awesome Creator.
